Kids and Adults with Disabilities

One in every five Americans is affected by a disability that impacts vision, hearing, mobility, mental development or ability to learn.  This translates into 54 million people striving to gain greater independence within their communities.

Nearly 70 percent of adults with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 64 are unemployed while more than two-thirds of these adults with disabilities say they would prefer to be working.

We Impact Lives in the following ways:

Work Program - unique facility based job program caring for over 50 miniature horses, Shetland ponies, and rescue horses.  We teach specific job skills in Equine Care and the dependency of animals to their care givers.  Help our participants develop meaningful relationships while building self-esteem and confidence.  Learning is tailored to the abilities of the worker.  Specific skills learned related to animal care are feeding, grooming, cleaning, haltering, leading, harnessing, and exercising.

Community Inclusion - helping individuals meet their goals related to integration, productivity and independence away from home.  Provide sensory awareness, assistance in dexterity, mobility, and social recognition.  General job skills, work habits, appropriate behavior, dependability, time managements, and working in a group are taught. Support and training is ongoing in this unique community activity.

Field Trips – scheduled Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Camps – a scheduled program for individuals or groups to experience feeding, brushing, leading, exercising and performing with a horse.

Housing – a program is being planned for group and independent living.

Families are encouraged to participate.
